    Question

I am in a crisis and I need some help with some decision making, after all buncha heads are better than one.

Here is my problem. I recently purchased a 92 cx hatch $2000.00 in great shape about 2 months ago with the intent to do a b18c1 swap and then take my SC'r off and bolt it to the civic and hope for mid 12's. Just last week though an offer came up. A guy that my friend knows is selling his civic project car. Due to a lack of finances he can not finish it and much less now that he has a kid on the way. Here is the deal. He has a 92 charcoal grey civic cx hatch. The swap has already been done w/ the b18c1. He was cruzing that way for quiet awhile but got the urge to go faster.. alot faster (hate when that happens!) So he pulled the engine and dropped some srp pistons 9.00:1 compression ratio, w/ crowler rods, and total seal rings and borred it over .0010 (does that increase displacement?) The motor is mated to a gs-r tranny (w/o lsd). The motor is out of a 95 teg (obd 1) At the same time he purchased a DFI stand alone system and also a turbo charger. I believe the turbo is a t3/t4 built by PROTURBO out of california. He said something about it being the same type turbo as the one "vietnam" ran a couple years ago when he was running 10.xx He also has the intercooler and custom piping already. The car is stripped of it's interior as he was going all drag w/ it but he did say he has the door panels and integra dash that can be moded to fit the interior if desired. As for the exterior the paint is in desent shape but the door pannels have body filler cuz he removed the door handles for the custom look. The suspension is all out of a gsr including brakes and rotors and stainless steel lines. The car has been on jack stands for 2 years now and has not seen the light of day since the rebuild of the motor. He estimates aprox 2000 more to finish the project he said he is lacking a BOV, FPR (would this be needed w/ dfi?), Boost controller, exhaust and other miscellaneous stuff including hoses) I personally don't know jack diddly squat about dfi and he said something about needing some sensors for it.

He says he has invested over 12K in the car including labor, machine shop, parts, etc... I truely believe that. He is asking 8K for the car and everything included. Is this a fair price for all the things he has done to it? As for needing the additional 2K I am thinking maybe just pulling the dfi and turbo and bolting up the s/c'r for the mean time as I do believe the engine can take it's abuse and he still has the harness and ecu for obd 1. Just keeping the dfi and turbo aside till I am ready to really fly one of these days. I already have a buyer for my current hatch (2700) and would have to take out a loan for the rest. I need ya'lls opinion, should I build up my cx from scratch or try and finish up this project. I am mainly looking for an all out race car drag/autocross but that can also be driven occasionally on the streets on late saturday nights more specifically near rankin smile smile smile smile Btw I have an acura tech that would be helping me out w/ either choice for peanuts (hopefully smile) as far as labor is concerned.

Oh and btw, it is a clean title.

    HELP!!!

I would keep building the current car...turbo is not the way to go for autocross....besides you never know what someone else has done to the car....with that much done to the motor you just never know...if its got all that done to it....why is he selling it so cheap?....this sounds fishy!!

I would stick to your project car. When it is finished you will be proud to know you did it yourself rather than picking up someone's leftovers. Plus, that other car would not be a good autocross car from the sounds of things so far. Good luck!

I agree with fastfour. It's your car from the beggining. Even if you get help from your friends for a build up, you will be there for the entire length and do what you really want to the car.
It might take a bit longer, but the payoff is priceless. As long as your car runs like you want it to, however if not, you will know what the problem is and can be tuned.

I think the other car would be a great priced opportunity, but only if you can clear up the questions about the turbo.

If you can't ID all the components, it'll be a bitch to work with.

Actually guys, I need to edit that post.. After thinking about it, I would rather it be an all out drag car that would see limited steet use. I would probably still use my teg for autox. Does that make a difference to you know? Just seems like the swap is done the motor hasn't been abused yet! and I can pull the dfi and just put the obd1 stuff back in and be done with it. I wasn't planning on building up my engine till it broke but he has already done that, and in addition has done the brake upgrade too, all that cost lots of money. My friend was the one that rebuilt his motor that is who mentioned it to me. So in essence, the car would be ready to roll right now just taking out all the turbo and dfi stuff that he has started and drop in the s/c'r. I actually haven't seen the guy or car in person but will do that today hopefully and will report back.

Well, if it is going to be an all out drag race car with no street use the answer is clear...Turbo and meaty slicks. biggrin
